Mine Engineering Co-op Student
OVERVIEW
Hecla Keno Hills owns the majority of the historic high-grade Keno Hill Silver District located in Canada’s Yukon Territory. We’re developing two underground deposits, the Bermingham mine and the Flame & Moth mine. This is a great opportunity to be part of a small team to develop your skills and make an impact at one of the highest-grade silver operations in the world.
We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter to join and support our growing team. The Mine Engineering Co-op will report to the Chief Mine Engineer/Senior Mine Engineer. Your primary responsibility will be to provide support to the technical services team and ensure a variety of technical tasks are implemented and maintained to support safe and efficient mining operations. This is a 14 day on / 14 day off rotation, working 12-hour days at our Keno Hill Mine in Elsa, Yukon.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Generate weekly production schedules and reports
- Assist with surface and underground surveying duties
- Assist with updating and issuing development prints and production driving layouts
- Assist with drill and blast design for long-hole stoping blocks
- Conduct pull tests on installed rock bolts in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
- Collect and perform QA/QC testing on shotcrete and cemented rockfill (CRF)
- Ensure adequate geotechnical instrumentation is deployed, read, maintained, and data reported
- Maintain database of all testing records
- Assist with conducting ventilation surveys to ensure adequate ventilation is achieved and maintained
- Communicate with various levels of technical and operational staff, which includes engineers, management, and underground supervision/personnel
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates looking for a 12 or 16-month term are preferred; please provide length of work term availability in cover letter
- The successful candidate should have the ability to adapt quickly to a new environment and work independently as well as in a team
- Qualified candidates must be enrolled in a Mining or Geological Engineering program full time, at an accredited university
- Candidates must have completed their first year of study at a minimum
- Co-op experience at an underground mine will be considered an asset
- Experience with Deswik and proficiency in Microsoft Office would be an asset. Other CAD mining software experience will be considered
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
