Tax Director
Purpose:
Accountable for ensuring effective tax compliance across the organization. Ensures completion of corporate tax and information returns on a timely basis for a portfolio of group entities.

SVP, Chief Financial Officer
Position Summary:
Contributes to the formulation and implementation of international tax strategy (in conjunction with senior internal finance staff and/or external advisors). Executes the corporation’s domestic and international tax strategy, including the review, analysis and development of global tax opportunities and structuring transactions. In addition, the incumbent manages tax related evaluations of potential domestic and international acquisition targets, as well as provides input to the corporation’s financial reporting process on a quarterly and annual basis. Works closely with other corporate finance persons to review changes in the global organizational structure for tax implications and maintains all appropriate related documentation. Maintains a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of domestic taxation and as required, obtains a general knowledge of tax matters in countries in which the Corporation may have an interest.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position:
Completes quarterly current and deferred tax provisions and reconciles balance sheet tax accounts, accurately and contributes to the completion of the year-end consolidated current and deferred tax provisions, and other tax related information for financial reporting.
- Organizes and maintains important entity tax information, computations, logs, and databases
- Minimizes compliance costs by ensuring the completion of corporate tax, mining tax, international and information returns, including special tax elections; evaluates and makes recommendations on tax alternatives including discretionary deductions claims and tax incentives to optimize corporate tax results
- Manages the relationship with outside tax advisors and external auditors
- Develops, maintains, and continuously improves models for tax provisions, tax returns and forecasting purposes with emphasis on automation
- Identifies tax planning opportunities through the ongoing review and research of corporate tax positions and recommending effective courses of action
- Manages and responds to all aspects of government tax inquiries, audits, reassessments, and objections
- Provides effective cash management of tax balances with authorities, tax refunds, and payments to minimize interest costs,
- Monitors changes in tax laws, judicial interpretations, government administrative policies and accounting standards and evaluates their impact on corporate tax filings and tax provisions
- Collaborates with management to identify tax risks and opportunities. Performs special assignments, including analysis and presentation of findings in a concise manner, as requested from time to time
- Manage, indirect tax compliance, planning and audit support. Research state and local tax matters, including evaluating such matters in the context of mergers & acquisitions. Provides input into the company’s strategic direction to senior management

Education & Credentials:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related discipline with professional certification (eg CA, CMA, CGA or equivalents)
- Licensed active CPA with greater than 7 years’ experience required, including experience gained at a national public accounting firm
- Practical knowledge of the mining industry and/or manufacturing processes, is helpful
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish or English and French a plus
